Questions from a parts operation

Does this replace our catalogue (ACES, TecDoc, or an internal file)?

No. Catalogue data still defines which parts exist and which vehicles they fit. CPQ uses those fitment rules at quote time so the counter or inside sales team does not re-check a second system after the SKU is chosen. Your catalogue stays the source; CPQ does not replace an ACES, TecDoc, or internal file feed.

Does this replace ERP?

No. ERP remains the system of record for stock, order, and invoice. In production, an accepted configuration can be handed to order handling so sales does not re-enter the deal. That handoff is configured in your production setup.

Who uses this: counter, inside sales, or a dealer portal?

The same guided path works for counter sales, inside sales, and a dealer-facing portal: vehicle, part family, kit completeness, then commercial terms.

What about supersessions and interchange?

Those belong in your catalogue and product data. When a SKU supersedes another, or an interchange applies, that logic should live with the part record. CPQ then only offers parts that are valid for the selected vehicle and currently orderable.

How do street-legal vs off-road or competition parts work?

Off-road and track parts often need an acknowledgement before they ship. Services and compliance can be a dedicated step so those waivers sit in the quote instead of a separate form. Street-legal vs competition-use is a product and policy decision you encode as rules; CPQ enforces it at quote time.
